Where do I get replacement parts?Either call Motorola at 1-866-BUY-MOTO or go to the Cellular Nationwide Network. What's the best battery to get?I see all these different batteries for the V3 claiming I'll get a lot more talk time than those expensive Motorola batteries. They're pretty cheap too, and on eBay I see someone with 65 of them for 99 cents!First I wouldn't recommend using any battery that wasn't an original equipment manufacturer (O.E.M.) item. Why? Not because I like spending more than I have to, but because the O.E.M. battery will most likely never short out, heat up and catch fire, or melt your phone. There's a reason O.E.M. batteries cost a little more than those unlabeled ones claiming very long talk times. I'd try looking at Shopping.com to compare the price at a lot of stores easily. Motorola recently made a new battery for the PEBL and started including it with newer V3s. It comes in a black wrapper and the model number is BR50, the Motorola part number is SNN5696B. It's rated to 400 minutes talk time or up to 10 days standby time. "Up to" doesn't mean you will get that, it only means what you can expect at the most and then only after duplicating very stringent conditions that can probably only be created in a JPL facility. Amazon has it for $23.99 here.
Since I like having spare batteries, I found this little gadget that will charge both the V3/V3c/V3i and a second battery at the same time. I like that it also has an LCD that tells you the charging status of both batteries at the same time. Tiger Direct has it for $19.99.
Does anyone sell a screen protector for the V3 like they do for PDAs?Yes a few people do. The ones I hear the most raves about are by a company called Martin Fields. You can get them here. Clear Touch also sells a similar product here. Clarivue makes yet another type here.
Where do I get a V3 case?A tip for those who haven't bought a V3 yet, if you pay full price and buy it from a cell phone store (not a service provider) like SimonCells.com you'll get the official Motorola case which is a pretty good one with a magnetic flap and belt clip. There are lots of cases for the V3. The one I like the best is made by Krusell right here, I like it because it fits very tightly, it has openings on the case for the camera, the antennae and the side connection port. It has a clear cover that protects the keypad which easily unsnaps to remove so you can get to the battery. It also has a swivel belt clip. The fourth picture is a clear case that I got at Amazon.com for $8. There is also a cool holster which completely exposes the phone that I haven't had the guts to use yet, because although the V3 snaps into it very securely I'd still hate to have it fall out. But it is the best way to really show off your phone and enjoy the styling if you don't want a case hiding it from view.
For a really good place to find a lot of cases (and other cell phone supplies) from many different stores at once go to Shopping.com and search for "V3 case" and then select the "cellular accessories" category. I heard you can get a RAZR engraved, is that true?Motorola offers laser engraved battery doors for the V3 in black, silver and pink for $19.99 I ordered one of these and it came out great! It took about a week, the letters are printed on somehow, not engraved and the letters are all very sharp and readable. You can get this at the MotoStore.
What's all this talk about the V3i?I just recently purchased a V3i right here from Tiger Direct. There are several improvements and updates over the original V3, like a camera that shoots at 1.23 megapixels instead of the 1/3 megapixel the original shot at (a major improvement), built in video capturing, dedicated iTunes music button and a hot swappable MicroSD memory card. I don't know why there is such a huge price difference in the colors. The box mine came in says it is "silver quartz" color but it is most definitely metallic purple. I'll eventually launch a site and a guide like this one for it at hacktheV3i.com.If you'd like to see a comparison in the photo and video taking abilities of the V3 and the V3i then click here to download the files.
This ends the "market" section of this tutorial. |
